As a fan who loves to learn interesting facts, I just had to venture deep into the great world of cameras. And thus, here's my list of fun facts about cameras — from my point of view!

1. The First Camera Was Born in a Dark Room (Literally!)

You won't believe that the word camera literally came from the Latin term "camera obscura," which translates to "dark chamber.".
And before electronic sensors and memory cards, there was only a container with a little hole that let light pass through. And when the light passed through, it made an upside-down copy of what was outside in the world onto the other side of the wall. That was how the very first cameras functioned — and the idea stretches all the way back to the 11th century! Is not that great?

2. The First Photo had taken Over 8 Hours to take!

Imagine the idea of taking a photo with the need to stay still for eight long hours. Unreal, isn't it? That's how many hours it took Joseph Nicéphore Niépce to take the first photograph in 1826. The photo was called "View from the Window at Le Gras."

Compare that to our sleek smartphones today, and you’ll realize how far technology has come.

 6. Your Smartphone Is More Powerful Than NASA's 1969 Computers!

And a head scratcher — the smartphone (and camera) in your phone today is more powerful than the computers used by NASA to get people to the moon with Apollo 11.

Deep underwater to far space — there are cameras everywhere! Cameras on Mars rovers, which travel to a different planet, are used by NASA. Deep-sea cameras are helpful to know about the unknown animals under sea. Researchers tracking wildlife even use stealth cameras to monitor wildlife in the wild.

It raises the question — cameras do not just take photos; they show us what is hidden.

8. The World Takes 1.8 Trillion Photos Each Year!

Yes, you heard right — 1.8 trillion! That is roughly 57,000 pics every second. From social networking updates to random photos of food, we're living in the most photographed era ever.
